Two Catholic organizations are launching a 101-day long campaign for Peace in Sudan ahead of the 2011 referendum on self-determination for South Sudan.

Solidarity with Southern Sudan and Catholic Relief Services teamed up to launch the campaign under the theme “Change Your Heart, Change the World”

The campaign will run from September 21, the International Day of Peace sponsored by the UN, up to January 1, Word Day of Peace for the Catholic Church.

Sr. Cathy Arata, from Solidarity with Southern Sudan, explained that between the two dates there are exactly 101 days that could be used to pray for peace and prepare for the referendum.

Sr. Cathy explained that during the 101 days some activities will be carried out at national level while others will be done locally.

Sr. Cathy said the 101 Days for Peace in Sudan was endorsed by the administrative board of the Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference.

She added that other organizations are teaming up to participate in planning and organizing the many activities that take place during the campaign.
