Lakes State Assembly is to hold its first seating next week after the National Elections Commission published the list of its members.

Caretaker governor Telar Ring Deng made the announcement during the belated SPLA Anniversary celebrations in Rumbek, Good News Radio reported.

Mr. Telar convoked the first sitting of the Legislative Assembly for Friday, May 28, and asked the Assembly Clerk to inform the elected members of the State parliament.

He explained that the governor-elect will be sworn in after the members of the Assembly take their oath and elect the Speaker and his deputy.

Mr. Telar made a negative assessment of Lakes State government, which he described as full of “shortcomings and misgivings”.

He said that the state suffers from lack of rule of law, adding that the powerful oppress the weak and get away with what he called “heinous crimes”.

Mr. Telar accused the government of wilful negligence while resolving tribal conflicts.

He also spoke of nepotism, lack of leadership vision and absence of transparency among others evils, clarifying that he was speaking out because he cared about the public interest.

Lakes State Legislative Assembly will comprise of a SPLM caucus, except for two independent candidates voted in from Wulu County.
