The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) is in a better shape to govern South Sudan and coordinate between the government and the lawmakers in Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly.

This is the assessment SPLM secretary general Pagan Amum made after the party conducted a four-day policy meeting with its members in Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly.

Mr. Amum presented to the press the results of the four-day workshop this afternoon in Juba.

Legislators elected by the SPLM discussed together the priorities for the new government and how to bring them into the legislative agenda.

The main areas of intervention are support for the referendum, good governance, security, agriculture and social services.

Mr. Amum said the SPLM is to repeat the meeting with its caucuses at the National and States Assemblies.

Mr. Amum announced that the SPLM got 156 of the 170 seats in Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly.

He added that the new Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly members will meet for the first time on Thursday to elect the speaker and the deputy speaker.

Mr. Amum said that the SPLM chose the two candidates for the positions but did not disclose their names.
