Unity state radio fired a journalist after being detained for 13 days in Bentiu Prison without charges.

Bonifacio Taban Kuich was arrested on April 23 while covering the general unrest across Bentiu town after the National Elections Commission announced that Taban Deng won the governor seat.

Mr. Taban said he was arrested at the orders of the governor-elect and was tortured during interrogation by security personnel.

Mr. Taban was released last week after the intervention of UNMIS.

When he reported to Bentiu FM to resume his duties he was told he was sacked since the day he was arrested.
