Rumbek Town Council on Wednesday organized a football match under the campaign “Keep Rumbek Town Clean”.
The game, played at Rumbek’s Freedom Square, featured Zalan FC against Akuac United FC.Marial Mathok, the captain of Zalan FC, told Good News Radio that the match was organized to highlight the ongoing cleaning up operation in town.
He lamented that the town clerk did not turn up to watch the match although he was invited.
The game ended with a one-one draw.
Akuac United opened the score sheet at the eightieth minute through striker Thon Col but Zalan FC equalized seven minutes later through its defender Mario Garang.
Mr. Mathok said his team Zalan FC was formed in 1999 and has won three trophies.
Akuac United, on the other hand, is only two years old, as Mr. Majok, the team captain explained.
Keep Rumbek Clean is an initiative spearheaded by the caretaker governor Telar Ring Deng, who was personally involved in the tidying up operations.
