The best way to deal with cattle raiding in the different parts of Southern Sudan is to organize a summit bringing together governors from the affected states to address the many issues connected with the ancestral practice.

This was the solution for cattle rustling Lakes State caretaker governor Telar Ring presented in an interview with Good News Radio.

Mr. Telar said the meeting would involve the governors of Lakes, Unity, Warrap, Western Equatoria and Jonglei.

He noted that the only obstacle for the cattle raiding summit is the change of government leaders that is taking place after the elections.

Mr. Telar added that it was critical to involve traditional chiefs while addressing the question of cattle raiding.

Mr. Telar promised to meet the chiefs in Cueibet, an area affected by raiding in Lakes State, before leaving the office next week.

Cattle raiding activities are a major cause of insecurity in many areas across South Sudan.
