Mapuordit Hospital, in Lakes State, is organizing a 10-day free eye surgery camp for people suffering from cataracts.
A cataract is an eye condition that clouds the natural lens of the eye and affects the vision not allowing patients to see things clearly both near and far.Dr. Rosario Iannetti is Mary Immaculate Hospital Medical Director. He told Good News Radio via e-mail that the 10-day Eye Cataract Surgical Camp at the end of May intends to treat 150 patients who he described as “almost blind due to cataract.”
Br. Rosario, who is a Comboni Missionary, added that the patients attending the surgical camp will have their sight completely restored due to the implantation of an artificial lens which will replace the natural one affected by cataract.
He urged patients to book for a place in the surgical camp, adding that there are still some 80 vacancies.
Dr. Sempele, a Kenyan Surgeon, will perform the operations assisted by three nurses from Kenya and two clinical officers from Tanzania based at Mapuordit Eye Clinic together with the Sudanese staff.
An NGO from Austria called “Light for the World” sponsors the Eye Cataract Surgical Camp.
