EASTERN EQUATORIA POSTPONES SPLA CELEBRATION

Eastern Equatoria state pushed by one day the celebration to mark the twenty seventh SPLA anniversary scheduled to take place in Torit.

The anniversary of SPLA revolution is marked on May 16 to remember the first shots in Bor in1983 that marked the beginning of the SPLA and the start of the second civil war.

Eastern Equatoria state Advisor on Governance and Peace, Cyprian Okuye Atar, told Radio Emmanuel that the celebration to mark the SPLA revolution this year will be celebrated one day later since May 16 falls on a Sunday.

Mr. Okuye said the postponement was decided after many meetings by state leaders to plan for the event that takes place in Torit’s Freedom Square.

He added that about 29 communities in the state are to colour the event with traditional dances and plays.

Mr. Okuye revealed that Eastern Equatoria witnessed the growth of cultural diversity from 14 ethnic communities to 29.

Mr. Okuye disclosed the program of the anniversary celebration.

Bor town was the birth place of the SPLA revolution while Torit shines for inspiring the 1954 uprising known as Anyanya One revolution.
