Residents in Juba have mixed feelings about beer adverts recently displayed in huge billboards across the town.

The billboards were used to convey messages to encourage citizens to vote. Now that the elections are over, some are advertising foreign beer brands.

SCR News reporter talked to few residents about the beer messages in display.

A male resident said ads should carry messages on education, agriculture, healthcare.

He strongly disagreed with the publicity of beer saying it is against the effort made by the authorities through the media to reduce drunkenness.

A female resident however gave a differing opinion. She said beer was bad for children but adults were free to buy it if they liked.

Another resident considered the move irresponsible and urged the government to replace the banners with development ads.

He said the beer adverts hurt him badly.

Other residents said the billboards should display messages on self determination, agriculture, health and education among other themes.
