UNMIS officers secured the release of a journalist that was under police custody without charges for two weeks in Bentiu.

Taban Bonifacio, a free-lancer reporting for the website Sudanvote, was arrested on April 23 allegedly for documenting elections violence in Unity State.

Agency for Independent Media (AIM) chief executive, David de Dau, told SCR News this morning over the phone that Mr. Taban was released late last evening after UNMIS officers paid him a visit at the detention centre.

Mr. Dau added that AIM and the media fraternity thank SPLM deputy secretary general Anne Itto for her intervention in Mr. Taban’s release.
