Members of the SPLM party in Eastern Equatoria praised a NCP top brass who defected to the ruling party in South Sudan.

SPLM Eastern Equatoria State Assistant Secretary for Political Affairs, Anisia Carlo Atim, told the press that Maurice Merisiya Kaunda made a wise decision to join the movement, Emmanuel Radio reported.

Ms. Atim says her party welcomed Mr. Kaunda as well as others wishing to become SPLM members.

She added that SPLM cadres will decide how to accommodate Mr. Kaunda in the party.

Ms. Atim recognized the contributions the former NCP official made to the state, saying the SPLM would offer him an opportunity to continue building the state as a party member and in accordance to the party constitution.

Maurice Merisiya Kaunda is the caretaker minister for Physical Infrastructure.

He confessed that he resigned from the NCP to join the SPLM in order to educate people to choose independence in the upcoming referendum on self-determination for South Sudan.
