A baby was found abandoned in a forest near Mapuordit, in Lakes State.
Elizabeth Nyankak, a resident of Mapuordit, found the female baby abandoned in the forest, Radio Good news reported.Ms. Nyankak reported the case to Mapuordit Payam authority.
The baby was taken to Mary Immaculate Hospital in Mapuordit.
Maruf Barnabas, a clinical officer at the hospital, said the baby is about 9 months old and suffers from brain damage which he described as “congenital”.
Mr. Maruf explained that such kind of brain damage is associated with malnutrition.
Efforts are underway to find the biological parents of the baby.
The Medical director of the hospital, Bro. Rosario Iannetti, named the baby Akon Roric, which means “abandoned in the forest” in Dinka.
