The driver of a bus that was involved in a road accident on his way from Wau to Juba said the problem was caused by mechanical failure.

Tuesday morning a Nation Dit bus had an accident near Aluakluak, some 60 kilometes East of Rumbek on the way to Yirol and all passengers survived but some sustained severe injuries.

The driver, Bashil Yesha Bashil, is being held at Rumbek Central prison pending investigations.

Mr. Yesha told Good News Radio that the steering got disconnected and he lost control of the bus that veered off the road.

He added that he was driving at 35 kilometres per hour.

One passenger attributed the accident to fast driving.

He added that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

The injured were taken to Yirol, Mapuordit and Rumbek hospitals.

Dr. Chan of Rumbek Hospital told Good News Radio that two women had their arms amputated.

He added that all the wounded admitted at the hospital were out of danger.

Nation Dit management urged the public to consider this incident as accident, and not a road attack as some media reported.
