Torit and Magwi Counties, in Eastern Equatoria, are among the hunger affected areas under the negative effects from bad harvests.

The UN factsheet indicates that up to half of the population will face hunger till till June when the new harvest is ripe, Emmanuel Radio reported.

In Magwi, although the second harvest season slightly improved food security, some areas are still at risk of famine due to the high number of returnees that settled there.

The UN says that about 240 thousand people in the state are under severe food shortage while others face moderate food insecurity.
