The head of the Catholic Church in South Sudan called on the faithful to pray for rain in order to bring peace, happiness and food security in the region.

Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro of Juba presided the mass at Jebel Lodu prayer centre on Sunday to celebrate the feast of St. Mark, the patron saint of that community in Kworijik parish.

The Archbishop said during his homily that the current draught has lasted for too long.

He urged the faithful to pray for rain through the assistance of St. Mark.

Archbishop Lokudu added that rain brings peace, happiness and food security.

The feast of Saint Mark is celebrated on April 25.

The archbishop was busy on that date with the ordination of three priests and a deacon and the celebration was postponed to one week later.
