The SPLA is redeploying along the north-south border in a bid to counter a build up of northern forces that military authorities say not normal.

SCR News sources in Wau reported heavy movement of SPLA troops, equipment and provisions towards the border with Darfur via Raja and Aweil.

The same sources added that SPLA forces were fighting Arab militias north of Raja and the clashes were “hard”.

SPLA acting spokesman, Colonel Ayuen Malaak, told SCR News that the redeployment is a normal movement to refresh troops that were involved in clashes with Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) last week.

Col. Malaak added that the North is sending troops to the border areas.

He added that the build up is not normal and the SAF’s intensions are not known.

Col. Malaak said SPLA forces are stationed some 40 miles south of the border.

He added that there is no fighting between SPLA and SAF forces.

Col. Malaak explained that wounded reported by our sources were from the clashes that took place on April 26 north of Raja.
