Lack of media laws and the authoritative attitude of the government are limiting the freedom of media outlets in South Sudan.

This is the assessment of Nhial Bol, Editor-in-chief of The Citizen, a Juba-based daily newspaper.

Mr. Bol told SCR News that the lack of laws denies the media its legal existence.

Mr. Bol said that the government does not approve the media bills in order to buy time to control the press.

He added that it reveals the totalitarian nature of the government.

Mr. Nyal said as editor-in-chief he experienced interferences, intimidation and harassment from the side of the authorities.
