Food insecurity in Eastern Equatoria State continues since last year and is expected to prolong until the harvests in July and September.

Budi County Commissioner, Fr. Loguti Maurice, told Radio Emmanuel that his area is among the most affected by the negative impact of two consecutive poor crop seasons.

Fr. Lugoti attributed the persistent food shortage in Budi County to constant raids and attacks on farmers by the communities from the neighbouring Counties of Torit, Ikotos and Kapoeta.

He said farmers in the county live in fear due to the ethnic violence by the neighbouring communities and do not cultivate as much as they need.

The commissioner added that unreliable rainfalls and lack of quality crop seeds also contribute to the food scarcity in the county.
