At least four people died when over 1000 people rallied yesterday in El Fasher, North Darfur, demanding their money back after an illegal investment scheme went bust.

Gunfire broke out between police and the angry mob and at least four people were killed.

El Fasher Police said three people were killed in the confrontations.

Residents put the death toll at 12.

Al-Shuruq television said three civilians and six policemen were killed in the riot.

A humanitarian worker told AFP that there have been four to 10 deaths as well as 20 to 30 people injured.
