UN CHIEF ASKS FOR PEACEFUL RESOLUTION OF ELECTORAL DISPUTES

The U N Secretary-General called on Sudanese authorities and political parties to solve peacefully any disputes arising from the presidential and parliamentary elections.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ban Ki-moon congratulated the Sudanese for their participation in the largely peaceful elections, despite numerous challenges.

He said the elections stand as a demonstration of the Sudanese commitment to democracy

Mr. Ban added that he took note of the preliminary reports observer groups prepared detailing successes and shortcomings of the elections and a number of security incidents.

He called on the authorities and political parties in the country to continue solving any matters arising from contested results or other irregularities through peaceful means.
