The Governor-elect of Lakes State said the elections in his region were free and fair.

Engineer Chol Tong Mayay thanked the elections authorities for their “good work”, despite logistical problems during a press conference at the SPLM Secretariat in Rumbek, Good News Radio reported.

Eng. Tong also thanked all the people of Lakes State for their overwhelming support for the SPLM, saying Salva Kiir Mayardit got in the state the highest percentage of votes in all the States of Southern Sudan.

He had a special word for women saying the great victory was due to them because they turned up in larger numbers than men to vote.

Eng. Tong said he will deliver education, health, water and sanitation, and above all, security.

The governor-elect offered to cooperate with his political opponents. He ruled out a coalition saying his government will be made of SPLM members due to the size of its victory.

The SPLM swept all Lakes seats at executive and legislative level, national, GoSS and state assembly except for Wulu and Domuloto in Wulu County, won by two independent candidates.
