Religious leaders of Western Equatoria State expressed concern over the delay by the National Elections Commission to announce the polls results and appealed for calm and patience.
Bishop Peter Munde, of the Yambio Diocese of Episcopal Church of the Sudan, Bishop Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio and Reverend Edward Nzeme, Secretary General of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sudan, wrote yesterday in a statement that they are concerned that the more the elections results are delayed, the more panic and anxieties grow.The signatories called upon the politicians involved in the elections to uphold the value and peace of the people they aspire to serve.
They called on the government to show more understanding and tolerance while upholding the rule of law and the security forces to handle people peacefully while protecting their lives.
They urged the Christian faithful to pray persistently, to be calm and patient.
The Church leaders wrote they condemn any act of violence.
It includes the recent arsenal attacks on the polling centre in Yangiri where ballot papers and the entire school building were burned down and the attack on a truck carrying electoral ballot papers on Mundri road.
Both incidents took place on Wednesday.
The three religious leaders signed the letter on behalf of the Inter-Church Committee.
