The National Elections Commission announced yesterday that the SPLM candidate Taban Deng won the governorship of oil rich Unity State.
SUNA news agency says that Mr. Deng got almost 138 thousand votes.Angelina Jang Teny, running as independent, was second with half of Mr. Deng’s votes.
The other candidates were by the order of polling Paul Leli Mafot, for the NCP; independent Kong Nero; James Mero Gatkoth for the National Democratic Front; Andria Kong Roway for the Democratic Forum of South Sudan; and SPLM-DC Samson Tuan Teng.
Mr. Taban was the first Governor NEC announced for Southern Sudan.
