The Pope asked priests and consecrated women and men to lead exemplary lives in order to promote vocations in the Church.

Pope Benedict prepared a message titled Witness Awakens Vocations for the forty seventh day of prayer for vocations that occurs tomorrow.

He wrote that in order to foster vocations to the ministerial priesthood and the consecrated life, the example of those who have already said ‘yes’ to God and to his plan for the life of each individual is critical.

Pope Benedict wrote that friendship with Christ is a fundamental element in every vocation to the priesthood and the consecrated life.

He added that another aspect of priesthood and religious life is the complete gift of oneself to God together with a life of communion.

The Pope concluded that personal witness, in the form of concrete existential choices, will encourage young people for their part to make demanding decisions affecting their future.
