A senior member of the domestic observers group said the recently concluded elections do not meet democratic standards.

Edmond Yakani is the coordinator for Sudanese Network for Democratic Elections (SUNDE).

He told journalists today in Juba that the elections were a milestone to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed in 2005.

Mr. Yakani added that the elections did not meet a democratic standard because of intimidation and harassment.

Mr. Yakani said SUNDE’s observers were intimidated and harassed by unknown and unauthorized security personnel.

He added that at least 21 SUNDE observers were detained.

Mr. Yakani said the elections didi not fulfil the aspiration for democratic transition of the Interim Constitutions and the CPA.
