The catholic bishops of South Africa declared June 13 World Cup Sunday.
The date is close to the beginning of the 2010 Football World Cup and the conclusion of the Year for Priests.Both events take place on June 11.
The bishops urged priests to stress in their homilies of June 13 the need to cure the ills of South Africa and throughout Africa along the lines of peace and reconciliation.
The prelates also asked for prayers so that the spirit of sportsmanship prevails in the tournament.
They asked all believers to give their contribution to prevent and combat crime, vandalism, hooliganism, and the exploitation of persons, especially children and women.
