Central Equatoria polling officials were paid today after they staged protests in Juba to get their money.
James Brown, State High Elections Committee leader, told SCR News that the officials received the pay for seven days of work as instructed by the National Elections Commission.Mr. Brown said the officials were demanding the money for the nine days they worked, including sorting and counting.
Mr. Brown added that the money for the polling officers was granted by UNDP to the National Elections Commission.
He said problems arose because the money went straight to NEC instead of being sent directly to the State High Committees.
Polling officials in Central Equatoria and Western Bahr el Ghazal rallied for their pay and caused some tensions in Juba and Wau.
