Police forces deployed on the streets of Juba are there to prevent violence, said a senior police officer.

Deputy inspector general of the South Sudan Police Service, Lieutenant General Gordon Michael Kur, told SCR News that since the election result might be announced at any time and the force took precautions to avoid any street violence.

Mr. Kur reiterated that the SSPS is on the streets to protect citizens at any time not only during the elections.

He dismissed rumours that some candidates for governor of Central Equatoria are threatening the security forces.

Mr. Kur urged Juba residents not to be scared by the presence of SSPS forces in the streets.

Young SSPS officers in blue uniforms armed with long sticks were deployed in Juba’s key points since the end of the elections to protect law and order.
