An international media watchdog said yesterday an online independent website used to monitor the elections in Sudan was blocked, preventing citizens from reporting irregularities in the recent polls.

Reporters Without Borders said in a statement that access to the Sudan Vote Monitor website was blocked within the country for the past six days.

The site www.sudanvotemonitor.com remains accessible to VSat connection subscribers.

Journalists, NGOs and citizens can post their reports on the voting process in the site using text and video documentations on positive and negative aspects of the polls.

The website is operated by the U.S.-based Sudan Institute for Research and Policy and the Khartoum-based Asmaa Society for Development.
