The ongoing land survey and demarcation process at Acholthen, Rumbek Central County, has affected many families, with dozens forced to seek land elsewhere.
Many affected families are blaming the local government, saying that they are being uprooted from their ancestral land.Adol Mading, one of the victims of the survey, told Good News Radio that the move by the government to have her move from her ancestral land, where she has buried her son, is unfair.
Ms. Mading insisted that she will stay put.
Eye witnesses said many houses are being demolished to create roads, while families are left homeless.
Long Majok is the Deputy Director of Land Survey in Lakes State. He said the move is for the good of the people.
Mr. Majok explained that the ongoing land survey and demarcation is meant to open up feeder-roads and pave the way for services and security and give Rumbek and its environs a better plan.
He added that those who are decrying the ongoing works of survey had been notified of the action since three years ago.
