SMOOTH BALLOT COUNTING IN JUBA WITH POLICE OUT IN FORCE

The counting of votes proceeded today in Juba without major hick ups.

Of four polling stations, visited by a SCR News team, half of them were still working on the final results.

The other two had finished the counting and displayed the results at the entrances to the poling stations.

Beneya Enosa, head of a polling centre at Hai Jalaba primary school, stated that 75 percent of the registered voters had casted their ballots.

He also shared with SCRN the major results in his centre: Yasser Arman led the presidencial vote, Salva Kiir was well ahead to retain GoSS presidency and Alfredo Ladu Gore was just above Clement Wani Konga in the race for governor.

In the SSRRC office, election official Awad Solomon declared that is his centre Yassir Arman had won, despite withdrawing from the race for the national presidency.

Salva Kiir Mayardit got most votes for the presidency of Southern Sudan.

Results in all visited stations show a neck and neck race for the governor of Central Equatoria.

Polling official Awad Solomon called upon the people to accept the results peacefully.

Police was out in full force today on the streets of Juba.
