Violence in Southern Sudan becomes increasingly politicized in approach of the January 2011 referendum and the just held election.
This is one of the conclusions of the Sudan Human Security Baseline Assessment group which is part of the Small Arms Survey, an independent research project of the Institute of International Studies in Switzerland.
According to the findings of the Small Arms Survey, the violence in Southern Sudan jeopardizes the fragile CPA, the peace agreement between the North and the South.
The reserach group adds in its working paper that the government of South Sudan has been unable to stem the rising violence.
Last year 2500 people were killed during violence in the South and 350 thousand were displaced
The Small Arms Survey warns that the approach of forcible disarmament by the government of Southern Sudan may actually exacerbate insecurity.
