Most media outlets have not complied with the elections guidelines prepared by the National Elections Commission.
This was disclosed by the Sudan Media and Elections Consortium (SMEC).Nefisa Alsabah, a SMEC official, told SCRN News that most media have continued campaigning, both in the North and in the South, during the day of reflection before polling and during polling days.
Ms. Nefisa confirmed that NCP and SPLM had the lion’s share of media coverage.
Ms. Nefisa commented that the media situation in Sudan during elections is in line with what happens in many Arab and African countries.
She added that the opposition got more space in Sudan than in some neighbouring countries.
Ms. Nefisa noted that voters’ education was carried out mainly during the week prior to voting.
