The National Elections Commission (NEC) announced last evening a two-day extension for the elections.
The SPLM and the Carter Center were among the voices urging the NEC to increase the voting period to compensate for the slow and confusing start polling on Sunday.NEC spokesman Salah Habib announced voting will be extended by two days to ensure technical problems will not prevent anyone from participating in the first democratic elections in 24 years.
The Catholic Radio Network (CRN) is a media project constituted by community-based radio stations broadcasting in Frequency Modulation from Juba, Yei, Torit, Yambio, Rumbek, Tonj, Wau, and Malakal. CRN has also a station in the Nuba Mountains. All the stations share the same vision and mission, and are bound by common editorial and administrative policies. Due to the heterogeneous realities of South Sudan, each station is rooted in its locality and broadcasts locally produced culture-sensitive programs in the languages which are understood by the local people. For its outreach, CRN has a potential audience of about seven million people, considering the influx of returnees to South Sudan after the Sudan Population Census 2008.
