The polling stations in Wau opened on time but started working properly only in the afternoon.
Until 10.00 AM not many people were in the voting centres, SCR News correspondent reported.
After 11.00 AM, until the early afternoon the polling centres were full and many people were queuing silently and patiently despite the heat and the sun.
After 3.00 PM until the closing time very few voters were in the centres.
The centres closed regularly at 6.00 PM.
In each polling centre there were about seven voting staff, 15 observers and ten security officers. Health personnel were also present. The centres were well organized and the staff was supporting.
In some centres in the villages people had difficulties in finding out exactly where to go for voting, but the staff members were very helpful in giving explanation to the people.
It took about 15 to 25 minutes to each voter to mark the 12 papers. Voters told the procedure was exactly as it was previously explained to them.
Many educated voters told that the procedure was easier than what expected. Other voters found the ballot papers confusing without names and some had difficulties with the ones printed only in English.
Some illiterate voters has problems in ticking the ballot papers.
Wau residents are aware of the importance of the elections; they know where the polling stations are and they are very willing to take part to this process and proud of showing their registration cards and their green fingers.
The atmosphere in town was the one of a Feast day; nobody was around except from cars of the government or moving the security forces. Only few shops were open.
