Southern Sudan High Elections Committee acting chairperson expressed concern over shortage of funds to carry out the polling activities.

Addressing the media yesterday in Juba, Anthony Ariki Lowly provided an overview of the preparation for polling.

He said there are around 5,800 polling stations in Southern Sudan, with seven members each, including the team leaders, for a total of over 40 thousand staff deployed as polling officials.

Mr. Ariki lamented the shortage of funds, and said that the complaint has been filed to the National Elections Commission.

Mr. Arirki explained that transport and food allowances for officials deployed to rural areas had not yet been provided by April 8, but the staff should be paid after the elections, as it happens in some neighboring countries, like Kenya.
