UNDP projects manager for security and arms control, Ms. Susanne Josephine Brezina told the press in Torit that the programme covers Jonglei, Eastern Equatoria and the upper Nile states.
Ms. Susanne says the programme seeks to finance about seven community projects according to their needs.
She says infrastructural development, construction of schools are some of the concerns the community raised during a survey carried out in the states to assess the needs of the people.
The project manager revealed that security concerns were the prime needs that the community demanded.
She says the programme also assists South Sudan Peace Commission and the Bureau for Community security and arms control to extend their presence at rural areas.
Ms. Susanne adds that the people have asked for the establishment of police posts to provide security against cattle raiding, attacks from neighboring communities and robberies.
