Nyankol Mathiang Dut told Good News Radio that she composed her first song when she was just five.
Ms. Mathiang said that she received encouragement from her late mother.
Singing the very first song live on Good News Radio, Ms Nyankol added that she has the project of teaching children traditional songs sang under the moonlight in memory of her own childhood.
Ms. Nyankol sings mostly in Dinka and her songs have been a great source of inspiration and hope during wartime.
She said while living in Khartoum her Dinka songs challenged those holding power and she was forced to flee Khartoum for Canada.
The accomplished musician said she dreams with an independent Southern Sudan.
She added that separation is the only way to develop Southern Sudan.
