GoSS President said Khartoum was delaying demarcating the north-south border to try to retain control over oil reserves in the region.

Salva Kiir Mayardit told supporters at a rally in Lakes state that Khartoum is not interested in demarcating the border because they want the oil and agricultural land of southern Sudan, Reuters reported.

Hundreds of supporters greeted Mr. Kiir, waving banners and kicking up dust in celebratory dances in Yirol town.

Several white bulls were slaughtered in his honor.

Analysts say a failure to resolve the north-south border issue could spark renewed conflict in the country.
