The European Union announced yesterday it will not deploy observers in the three states of Darfur citing insecurity.

Veronique de Keyser, the leader of the EU Election Observation Mission, said in a statement that she visited Darfur and conditions for a firsthand observation are not met in the region.

Ms. de Keyser added that she decided to relocate the observers destined to Darfur.

The EU mission has 130 observers, who are already deployed across the country.
