The Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movement will boycott Darfur elections due to the ongoing conflict and insecurity in most parts of the area.

SPLM Deputy Secretary General for the southern sector, Anne Itto, told the press this morning in Juba that people have been killed and harassed in Darfur, there is emergency state in the area and therefore there is no point for to take part in legislative elections I the West of Sudan.

Dr Itto re-affirmed the SPLM’s firm decision to participate in the forthcoming elections across Sudan, except in Darfur, dismissing rumors that the party wanted to boycott the elections in the North.

She added that the SPLM made it clear that the party would field candidates in the other elections across Sudan, except for Darfur.
