The Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movement is not involved in the election boycott as earlier reported by the media, said an SPLM official today.
Sudan Tribune website reported last week that Sudanese opposition forces agreed with the SPLM to delay their decision on whether to participate in April election or to boycott it.Addressing the press this morning, the SPLM deputy secretary general for the southern sector Dr. Anne Itto said the allegation is not true and the issue has been referred to a meeting at the presidency which will take place tomorrow.
Dr. Itto mentioned that SPLM only requested for the state elections for southern Kordofan to be delayed due to a disagreement over the census results.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit yesterday re-affirmed the SPLM’s commitment to free, fair and timely elections during a press conference at Juba airport.
Mr. Kiir noted that his party will ensure that the elections are not postponed but held on April 11 to 13.
