Ballot papers for the president of the republic and of south Sudan and for governors were printed in Khartoum by an NCP controlled printing press.
However, the national consensus forces have expressed their concern about the arrangement. It was agreed that all ballot papers would be printed outside the Sudan to avoid mismanagement and rigging of the elections.
Addressing the press today, Dr. Anne Itto, SPLM deputy secretary general for the Southern Sector, said that political parties are concerned that the arrangement is an opportunity for the NCP to rig the upcoming elections.
Dr. Itto mentioned that parties also reacted to President al-Bashir’s threat to cut off fingers and deport international monitors if they interfere with domestic affairs concerning the elections.
She added that the law allows international monitors and therefore they should not be subjected to any form of threat.
The political parties are also afraid that president al-Bashir may declare a state of emergency which would lead to unfair elections particularly in the north.
Dr. Itto explained that laws that have never been repealed like the security law allow Mr. al-Bashir to call for a state of emergency.
