Food shortage has forced residents of Mairo boma in Lomohidang north Payam, Ikotos county of Eastern Equatoria state, to survive on a diet of fruits.

Mr. Lino Lomoi, a resident of Lolihino village in the hunger hit area, told Radio Emmanuel that the people of Mairo boma depend on coconut fruits, mangoes and on vegetable plant to survive.

Mr. Lomoi said the situation has been worsening every passing day for the last eight months following rainfall shortage in the region.

He lamented that lack of food scarcity has increased crime cases like theft killing.

Mr. Lomoi said poverty and famine are biting the residents of Lomohidang Payam while neighbouring communities have access to relief food.
