Communities in the counties of Greater Yei, Central Equatoria, have been advised to seek early testing and free treatment for Tuberculosis in order to contain the burden of the disease in the area.

The call was made by a clinical officer working with Maltaser, Agnes Nyoka while speaking to Radio Emmanuel reporter in Yei.

Ms. Nyoka said the people in Greater Yei should take advantage of the ongoing free tuberculosis testing and treatment program courtesy of Malteser to prevent the negative consequences that the disease has on the communities.

She noted that an infected person who is not treated early enough has the capacity of spreading tuberculosis to about 10 or 15 members of the community each year.

The clinical officer criticized witchdoctors whom she said were frustrating efforts aimed at fighting the disease by concentrating on exploiting the ignorance and resources of people suffering from TB.
