Central Equatoria State Ministry of Education has withdrawn its teachers deployed to private schools during the civil war, including Catholic schools, ahead of the new school year.
David Lowela Ladu is a Director General in the Central Equatoria Ministry of Education. He told SCR News that the ministry withdrew government employed teachers from private schools to cover for staff shortage in public schools.Mr. Lowela revealed that private schools were warned as early as 2008 to recruit their own educators because the state could move away its teachers at any time.
Mr. Lowela said state government has full rights and reasons to withdraw its teachers from the private schools in order to put them in public schools.
He added that Terekeka, Lainya and Morobo counties are in serious need of teachers.
The withdrawal of government teachers is also affecting Catholic schools across the region.
SCR News tried to get the position of the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba but its education coordinator declined to present an official statement.
