Soldiers have frequently forced their way to use vehicles belonging to NGOs, public transporters and other local organizations including the Church during their activities of disarmament in Lakes State.

Some ten days ago, vehicles belonging to the Education sector of ACROSS were forcefully taken by armed personnel in the area of Akot, some 50 kilometres East of Rumbek town, Radio Good News reported.

One of the drivers was thoroughly beaten and was attended to at the Mustard Seed Hospital at Akot in a state of unconsciousness.

Lakes State caretaker governor gave directives to all military authorities to stop confiscating trucks and vehicles belonging to organizations while on their line of duty.

Five days later, a car belonging to the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek was seized by the military in the same area of Akot while heading for Mapuordit mission.

The truck was freed after the intervention of the Comboni Missionaries from Mapuordit.

The ongoing activity of disarmament in Lakes State announces untold fear among civilians because of the kind of torture military personnel mete out on civilians.
