Over 100 teachers turned up for the Teachers Training Workshop in Agangrial Mission, Cueibet county in Lakes State, despite fears of insecurity following the clashes between SPLA forces and civilians three weeks ago.
The Teachers Trainer for the Diocese of Rumbek, Philip Gachube, told Radio Good News on Monday that the just concluded workshop was a great success, adding that the turn up in particular was against their expectations. He acknowledged the assistance of the Acting Commissioner together with the Education Director of Cueibet County.
Mr. Gachube enumerated the indicators of success, noting in particular the enthusiasm and active participation of the teachers who turned up and the cordial spirit of the host community of Agangrial.
Commenting on the female participants at the workshop, the teachers trainer said, amidst laughter, that it was a success to have four women graduate against 95 men.
Mr. Gachube appealed to women to take up the teaching profession, explaining that women “can make wonderful teachers.”
The Education Field Coordinator for Rumbek diocese, Robinson Odong, appealed to the government to increase the salaries of teachers who have taken part in similar workshops on the basis of certificates received.
The workshop ended last Sunday. It was organized by the Department of Education, in the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek.
