Eastern Equatoria state journalists have been assured of their protection on the course of executing their duties during the elections period.
Eastern Equatoria state Director of Administration in the Ministry of Communications and Information, Agafito Lokikay, said yesterday at the closure of a three-day training workshop in Torit that journalists would be protected while reporting on elections.Mr. Agafito told over 40 journalists that unlike hardships and mistreatment reporters receive world over, the Government of South Sudan, the State government and the Election Commission will offer them the necessary protection whenever they will be assigned to cover the upcoming elections.
The journalists had graduated from a three-day training on elections coverage and reporting.
Mr. Agafito advised the grandaunts to abide by the journalists’ Code of Conduct and Ethic while executing their duties and assignments.
South Sudan journalists are being trained in Juba, Rumbek, Malakal and Torit to prepare for adequate coverage of the upcoming elections and referendum for self-determination.
The training is organized by Sudan Media and Election Consortium in conjunction with Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) and International Media Support (IMS).
