An official from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has alerted that last year’s prolonged dry spell has worsened food security in south Sudan.
Denis Poggo is FAO programme manager of the Sudan institutional Capacity Programme food security Information for Action. He told SCR News that two assessments done last year show a decrease of 38 percent of food production last season.
Mr. Poggo added that the government and donors should contrite to fill the existing gap by bringing extra food to the affected areas.
Mr. Poggo had also good news: he announced that Western Equatoria, Warrap and Upper Nile had better crops compared with the rest of south Sudan states.
